A couple of years ago Muhammad Yunus won the Nobel peace prize for helping to establish a robust micro credit facility for impoverished entrepreneurs in his native Bangladesh
Now, there is a social network on the web that has expanded this opportunity to micro lenders and small business owners around the globe. Kiva.org is an incredible example of what Kim Patrick Kobza identified several years ago as the evolution towards a 'smart web'. The grass roots movement started by Dr. Yunus has now gone global through Kiva and that community has loaned more than 20 million dollars up to this point in less than three years. Many of these lenders are repaid quickly and thousands of businesses around the world are better able to expand their influence and overall benefit to their community's local economy.
